ARCH awarded Interpretation Australia’s Outdoor $100K+ Project of 2025

For ARCH, this win affirms our belief that architecture and landscape design can, and should, help people understand and value their surroundings. By embedding interpretive thinking into our design process, we help transform static spaces into meaningful places; public sites into places of discovery, connection and reflection.

About Interpretation Australia

Interpretation Australia (IA) is the peak professional body in Australia for natural and cultural heritage interpretation. The association promotes excellence in interpretation and raises the profession's profile.

IA defines “interpretation” not as language translation, but as the process of communicating heritage – natural, cultural or historical – to audiences in meaningful, engaging ways. Through signage, storytelling, displays, guided experiences, media or design interventions, interpretation helps people make sense of their environment, deepen their understanding of place and connect emotionally to what they experience. What the award recognises

The Outdoor $100K+ Award celebrates large-scale, outdoor interpretation projects where design, storytelling, environment and audience experience come together to deliver something truly special. Winning this category acknowledges that our project not only met high standards of aesthetic and technical quality, but also, and importantly, succeeded in creating a public interface that invites engagement, learning, and emotional connection with the natural or cultural landscape.

In a world where heritage, environment and community are increasingly under pressure, interpretation plays a critical role in nurturing stewardship, awareness and empathy. Good interpretation encourages visitors to see landscapes, histories and cultures with fresh eyes — and that’s the kind of impact ARCH aspires to deliver.
