Whiddon Redhead
Delivering beyond expectation
ARCH was engaged to design and document a new 80 to 100 bed Residential Aged Care Facility at this site which already had established independent living units and a residential aged care facility. Our brief was to capitalise on the ocean views and improve visitor access and street presence. ARCH created welcoming, accessible communal spaces encouraging engagement between the ILU and RACF residents, to build a genuine sense of community.
ARCH developed several concept designs that explored innovative solutions and exceeded our client’s expectations delivering a far greater number of rooms than anticipated by Whiddon and dealing with the sloping terrain in a manner that increased opportunities for resident connection to the site.
Efficiently re-purposing underutilised, large spaces in the existing building, ARCH created a central, communal area for the site and reorganised site access to be more legible and functional. A new kitchen and laundry in the new building are able to service this entire campus and another at nearby Belmont, allowing the existing, kitchen and laundry areas to be remodelled into residential areas without interruption to operations.
