Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre

The design form was influenced by the local indigenous story of ‘Kondili the whale’ where Kondili and his friends disappeared below the waves to re emerge as sea creatures.

Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project was a development of a regional aquatic and recreation facility for the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. The indoor aquatic centre contains health, sport and recreation facilities for the growing communities from Victor Harbor to Goolwa and further afield.

This aquatic centre features a series of swimming pools, an outdoor splash park and a fitness facility.

ARCH’s contemporary design responds to the local topography and reflects the cultural heritage of the local indigenous people. The stories and spirit of place are woven into the building fabric, and are found within the rammed-earth walls and outlook overlooking the local wetlands.A family-friendly space, the centre is grounded in a respect for place, community and enduring sustainability.
