Victorian State Netball & Hockey Centre

Design excellence for sporting excellence

Known as Melbourne Sports Centres – Parkville Stadium, the Victoria State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC) redevelopment is the centrepiece of the Victorian Government’s record investment in women’s sport. With Netball Victoria, Super Netball’s Melbourne Vixens, Hockey Victoria and grassroots hockey and netball teams based at the centre, the redeveloped facility is a venue for community participation, high- performance excellence, competitions and major events. The expanded centre enables more use by volleyball, basketball, futsal, badminton and table tennis players and is home to the Women in Sport Leadership Centre.ARCH’s design, within the existing boundary, transformed the building into an elite facility and cements Parkville as the home for netball and hockey in Victoria.

The works have created a new northern entrance, better connecting the centre to both public transport and car parking. The city fringe location facilitates access of school groups, community and elite level teams via public transport, buses and coaches. The upgrade includes: six new indoor netball courts, a new indoor hockey facility, a high-performance strength and conditioning gym, the Women in Sport Leadership Centre and upgrades to amenity and infrastructure including: improved circulation and access to local public transport as mentioned above. This centre caters for international elite athletes and competition as well as being a hub for athlete development, major sport programs, sector education programs, and sports administration.
