Killarney Court
Light filled spaces connected to landscaped courtyards
The front door to this existing facility was hidden from the street and shared its entry way with the deliveries bay. Existing rooms opened onto this unsecured driveway and loading area. ARCH reconfigured and increased the parking, upgraded fencing, signage and landscape, provided secure landscaped courtyards to the existing rooms and most importantly gave legibility and a welcoming feel to the entry with a landscaped arbour connecting a new entry airlock to the carpark.
The new wing to the existing Killarney Court RACF comprises 23 new single rooms with ensuites, some with direct external access to secure courtyards. The new building connects to the existing with 3 glazed links connecting communal spaces in both buildings.
This offers a range of different living and activity spaces as well as creating a series of secure courtyards. The corridors and living spaces of the new extension utilise raking ceilings and high level windows to create light filled, airy spaces that belie the efficient floorplate. The existing facility has also been extended at the ends of 3 existing wings to include an additional 6 rooms, an enlarged dining space, new central kitchen and laundry, new staffroom and offices.
