Embracing the community to share in a generously landscaped and thoughtfully designed contemporary learning environment

ARCH were engaged for architectural and interior design services for the Year 5-12 learning spaces and campus-wide common facilties for St Anthony of Padua Catholic College in Austral.  This project provides the main component of a comprehensive preschool to year 12 progressive education environment for 2,200 students. ARCH previously delivered the Year 1-4 building as part of the masterplanned college devlopment. The Catholic College is structured with a Formation Phase (K-4), a Foundation Phase (5-9) and a Senior Phase (10-12). The Catholic education pedagogy overlay informs the design thinking and has resulted in learning-centred design solutions and is a creative response to a progressive education brief and robust user group interaction.

The new Year 5-12 components of the campus include general and specialist learning neighbourhoods, a library, college administration, staff facilities, and performing arts facilties that are designed such that they can be used by the public, as are the hospitality offerings and the sports and recreation facilties.

New common spaces include a central gathering space - the forum, a multipurpose hall, an amphitheatre and a public piazza. Links to a potential new church adjacent the public piazza are included as part of the overall staged masterplan, the design of which is to embrace the local community, inviting them to visually and physically participate in the generous amenity that the College offers.
