Our Reconciliation Action Plan

ARCH has completed 18 months implementing our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and has formally registered to develop the next stage – an Innovate RAP with Reconciliation Australia.

An Innovate RAP advances an organisation from intention to action by developing and testing practical initiatives that strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and embed reconciliation in daily practice.

Through our Reflect RAP, we established strong foundations that are now embedded in our design processes and organisational culture. Leadership commitment and increased studio-wide awareness of Country have shaped our approach, ensuring our communications and project engagement are culturally informed and respectful.

At ARCH, we design with, in, and for communities to anchor projects in local culture and values. By engaging those connected to our work, we create places that meet functional needs and celebrate local identity, encouraging unity and pride.

Approved by Reconciliation Australia in early 2024, our Reflect RAP deepened our understanding of reconciliation and our responsibility as designers on Country. It affirms respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights to culture, land, and self-determination.

Through implementing our Reflect RAP, we have:

  • Embedded awareness of Country in our design thinking and project processes
  • Strengthened cultural understanding across our studios
  • Established clearer engagement approaches when designing within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Built internal governance to support reconciliation initiatives across the practice.

Our RAP is implemented collaboratively across ARCH, led by our CEO and a dedicated RAP Working Group with representatives from each studio. Their guidance ensures reconciliation principles are integrated into our strategy and daily operations.

As we develop our Innovate RAP, ARCH will translate these foundations into practical initiatives and partnerships that create meaningful opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For clients and collaborators, this means partnering with an organisation that delivers insightful design and positively contributes to the social and cultural fabric of our communities.

ARCH remains committed to listening, learning, and working with First Nations peoples to ensure the places we design respect Country and support thriving, connected communities.
