GCUH Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit
Sited on the land of the Yugambeh language speaking nation, the concept faces the coast to the rising sun and the hinterland with the setting sun
The design team led by ARCH are in the construction phase for the Gold Coast University Hospital - Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation project. With a total project value of $105million the project is expected to finalise construction in September 2024.
The project sits on the land of the Yugambeh language speaking nation, on a greenfield sloping site on the eastern corner of the Gold Coast University Hospital site facing south east to Innovation Drive and north east to Hospital Boulevard. The emphasis of the best practice mental health design is on rehabilitation and a people friendly environment with the interior look and feel having more residential similarities than clinical, and a strong sense of place material and colour palette to reflect the arrival, recovery and assessment zones in the building.
The 40 bed facility is on 3 levels with entry at the upper level from the existing hospital to 2 levels of 2 x 20 bed secure mental Health Rehabilitation ward and clinical facilities and a basement level for secure access, plant and undercroft space.
